How COVID-19 Is Changing The Workplace

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our world already. Obviously, things will settle down eventually, but even then some things have changed forever. This is most definitely going to be felt in the workforce. If you are wondering if life will ever get back to "normal" here are a few ways in which COVID-19 has probably changed the workforce permanently.

Workplace Flexibility

If COVID has taught employers anything it is that work can get done in a lot of different contexts. Jobs that were always labeled "on-site" are now successfully being completed from home. This is going to have one of the most significant impacts on the future workplace. Companies are now forced to admit that there are many more positions available for remote status now. Employees will demand that remote options stay in place moving forward. Not everyone loves working from home, but everyone loves options. It is certain that our future workplace will see more remote options for employees.

Health Screenings and Social Distancing

If you are already tired of temperature checks just to get into your grocery store and 6 feet distance reminders at every turn, don't hold your breath on this ritual going away anytime soon. As many companies and other institutions prepare to re-open it is obvious that health screenings and social distancing are probably here to stay for a while, if not forever. If you land back in an onsite job, you should prepare for daily temp checks and a new work station arrangements as companies try to implement safe practices post-COVID.

Fading Business Attire

Some are speculating that after months of working from home in our pajamas, employees will be very resistant to workplace dress codes when returning to onsite jobs. Will employers fight this or give in to the masses? It's just speculation right now, but who wouldn't love casual Friday every day?

If you are longing for the day when everything gets back to normal, it might be safer to look forward to the day you can embrace the new normal. Because as the old song says, "The Times They Are A-Changin'. "
